13-Year Cicadas Invasion June 2011

I haven't really noticed any in town, but you can hear the 13-year Cicadas singing as soon as you get outside of town! I shot this video at Ballard's Nature Center. It's hard to see them, but I wanted you to hear the noise they are making! The 13-year Cicadas are a little smaller than the normal yearly ones we will see (and hear) later in the summer. They have red eyes and their wings are more orange. They will probably be around for a few more weeks, then we won't see them again until 2024.

  1. Hello, I just discovered your cool blog about Altamont. My husband will start a new job for an oil company in the area and we will need to relocate (we are from Olney - not far!). I never really liked Effingham and in looking things over, I think we would really like Altamont. We are in our 50's - the kids have grown and I guess this is a new chapter for us. I owned a store in Olney called Market Decor for a couple of years and my husband has been in the oil industry for over 30 years. I am a interior designer also. Anyway, Altamont seems like a pretty, quaint small town. Any information you can give me would help! I look forward to hearing from you if you have the time. My e-mail is elli1017@gmail.com - I will keep reading your blog! Thank You!
    Best Regards,
    Cindy Ellison
